What the Opportunity entails:

An intelligent, educated and ‘with it’ older person with reduced mobility and very poor eyesight is seeking a Sharer for their home to give them a mix of 15 hours’ help and company each week in exchange for the low-cost accommodation.

This person would value the friendly reassurance and company of having someone living in their home in the evenings and overnight. They would also like some general practical help around the home such as picking shopping, cooking three or four meals each week (including sometimes cooking and eating together), light cleaning and tidying, finding things, some admin (eg reading post, typing emails), and ad hoc practical help and errands as may be needed.

The accommodation on offer is fairly self-contained on the lower ground floor of the property. There is a large bedroom (furnished with twin beds) and ensuite shower room and loo, and a kitchenette is also being installed. There is also use of the main kitchen when cooking together, and the communal garden.

The property is in an excellent location in Edinburgh, with a bus stop two minutes’ walk from the property, and just one mile from Waverley Station and the castle, old town and Royal Mile.

The person enjoys used to run a small Christian book shop and taught English Literature part-time. They enjoy listening to literature (audiobooks) and are a member of a book club. They also like classical music concerts and French conversation. They grew up in India and also worked there with the church for a period. They enjoy eating fish.

As a Sharer you are free to work or study as long as you have enough spare time to give the agreed level of company and support. The ideal Sharer will be a kind, helpful and reliable non-smoker, who is happy to help around the home.
