What the Opportunity entails:

An elderly person with poor mobility and hearing is seeking a Sharer for their home to give them a mix of 15 hours’ help and company each week in exchange for the low-cost accommodation.

This person would value the friendly reassurance and company of having someone around their home in the evenings and overnight. They would also like some general practical help around the home such as picking shopping, cooking four or five simple meals each week, light cleaning and tidying, laundry, carrying heavier items, simple IT (eg using the iPad) and ad hoc practical help and errands as may be needed.

The accommodation on offer is a furnished doubled bedroom and shared bathroom. The home also has a living room/diner, galley kitchen and patio garden. There is parking too. nb it is 55+ accommodation so the Sharer must be aged over 55.

The property is in an excellent location just 5 minutes’ walk from Sturry Station (trains are 4 minutes to Canterbury) and close to buses too. There is a Co-Op five minutes’ walk away.

The person is a bit forgetful but can hold a good conversation. They were a nurse in the war and have many stories to tell from that time. The enjoy watching the news, good quiz programmes, Call the Midwife, reading the Daily Mail and might enjoy playing a simple card game. They have always been very independent and enjoy their own space, and would appreciate the light help from a Sharer to enable them to remain living as independently as possible.

As a Sharer you are free to work or study as long as you have enough spare time to give the agreed level of company and support. The ideal Sharer will be a kind, helpful and reliable non-smoker, who is happy to help around the home.
