What the Opportunity entails:

An older couple where the wife has dementia are seeking a Sharer for their home to give them a mix of 15 hours’ help and company each week in exchange for the low-cost accommodation.

They would value the friendly reassurance of having someone around for some friendly company and to give the husband a little bit of time out of the house. They would also appreciate some general practical help around the home such as picking shopping, cooking a few meals each week (and eating together sometimes), general help looking after the house as you would anywhere you live, accompanying on some short walks, having a cuppa together and ad hoc other practical help and errands.

The accommodation on offer is a furnished single room (furniture can be discussed), shared use of the bathroom (shower and bath), and shared use of the kitchen, sitting room and garden.

The property is in an excellent location in the vibrant area of Montpelier with good local bus services and Montpelier train station just 10 minutes’ walk from the house.

The wife is very sociable and loves to chat; she watches TV and enjoys supervised walks, but does get anxious. She is a retired social worker and also used to organize a festival, while the husband plays backgammon, does crosswords and enjoys a wide range of music.

As a Sharer you are free to work or study as long as you have enough spare time to give the agreed level of company and support. The ideal Sharer will have some daytime availability and be a kind, helpful and reliable non-smoker, who is happy to help around the home.
