What the Opportunity entails:
About the opportunity
Our aim is to provide a volunteer-led programme of activities on Zoom, that will be open to anyone who is lonely and isolated during COVID-19 – and beyond. We have already started our weekly Fitness for your own Chair exercise classes with you, our clients, and want to do more to address the huge issue of loneliness and isolation among older people in the wider community, both locally and across the UK.
We are looking for volunteers to organise Weekly Zoom sessions of different activities to engage older people and help them to feel part of a community from their own home. We know not all older people have an iPad or tablet, either because they don't know how to use it or cannot afford one, so we are fundraising to enable us to offer a tablet to those who don't have one so they can be included in this initiative.
What we are looking for?
We hope to offer one activity each weekday for about 30 mins per session. We are looking for volunteers to lead some of the following activities and are also open to other ideas too.
We would like to offer;
- a book reading club - a volunteer who will read a book out loud to benefit those participants with poor eyesight, while others may choose to read along. Each session will conclude with some time to discuss the book
- a weekly online quiz with interaction encouraged from our volunteers and members of the club
- a befriending service for those struggling with loneliness and isolation
- an art class
and we will also continue with the Seated Exercise Class (Fitness from your own Chair).
