We are always glad to hear about other organisations that offer services to people who are living with dementia, so we were excited to hear about My Life Films.
Named as Charity Startup of the Year in 2016 My Life Films celebrate the life of someone living with dementia by making a biographical film in they are the star.
Using experienced qualified filmmakers who are specially trained to work with people who are living with dementia, My Life Films capture favourite memories on film so that they can be shared with family and friends for years to come.
The process of making the film can be a positive experience for the person living with dementia – going through old photographs can stimulate memories and conversations. And it can be a bonding experience for them and family members who help to sift through the photograph albums.
Working in your own home, the filmmaker gets to know the Star during several visits. Discussion about what is going to be included in the film, favourite music for the soundtrack and filming itself is all part of the process.
Finished films are presented in two forms – the long film lasts for about half an hour and the short film a synopsis that lasts for around 5 minutes.
My Life Films secure funding from charities, trusts and grant-giving organizations in order to produce films for free. Current funding is in place for free films to be made for residents of Hampton, Barnes, central London, Dorsetm Kent, Hampshire, Exeter and Devon.
